Games Are A Way Of Life

One of the loves of my life is board games. Now, I don't mean your usual Monopoly, Risk, or even Trivial Pursuit. You'll have to think Beyond Monopoly for this.

I love Power Grid, Ticket to Ride, Battle Lore, Age of Steam, and countless others. I have 338 games in my collection now.

I never imagined that I would ever own more than a dozen games of any type, whether that be digital or physical, but now I own so many. I never tout the number of games to brag, but I do so in amazement of just how much this hobby has grown on me and my family.

One of my favorite online haunts is Board Game Geek, and if anything that I have said so far interests you, then that's a good place to start.

Collectible Games

I guess I would have to estimate my Magic the Gathering career at almost 10 years now. I have almost every card up to about 4 sets ago that I ever wanted (a full play set that is) and people rarely want to play me.

I guess that's the double edged sword of the collectible game. You spend alot of time and money getting all the things you want to have alot of fun and be great at it, then most people either drop out of the hobby, or they just don't want to play you since you have enough of the "best" stuff to kick their asses.

Since I have continued to beat the boardgames horse, allow me to whip it into further submission: I guess collectible game have shown me what's so great about board games. While there might be expansions that further the variety to be had in a given game, there is no way other than cunning or lucky game play to become better than another player. I think that often brings me back to that hobby and keeps me interested because, besides the utter variety there is, you also have the finite knowledge to be had other than that of strategy. This seems to put the human element first other than the money or time the person has spent in the hobby.
